Before investing in a full-scale water treatment system, there’s an important question to answer: How will the proposed process work with your water?
Sparkling Clear Industries’ feature in the November/December 2026 issue of BIC Magazine explores that question through a project with Gulf Coast Modification. Written by SCI’s Danny Roznovsky, the article highlights a proof-of-concept approach to a complex hydrotest water application.
For this project, the starting point was understanding how a treatment process could address several water-quality challenges together.
Multiple Contaminants, One Treatment Challenge
Gulf Coast Modification approached SCI with hydrotest water concerns involving chlorides, hydrocarbons and biological contamination. Addressing those concerns required looking at the application as a whole, including how different treatment stages would work together.
SCI’s approach was to begin with a smaller proof-of-concept skid. The goal was to evaluate the proposed treatment process under the customer’s application conditions and determine whether it could achieve the desired water quality before moving forward with a full-scale system.
That smaller system created an opportunity to gather practical information before making a larger investment.
Why Start With a Proof of Concept?
A proof-of-concept system provides a way to evaluate a treatment strategy using the conditions that matter to the customer.
For a complex application, that evaluation can help answer several questions:
- How do the treatment stages work together?
- Can the proposed approach meet the application’s water-quality goals?
- What information should guide the design of a larger system?
The Gulf Coast Modification project illustrates the value of building that evaluation into the process. Starting at a smaller scale gives the customer and treatment provider an opportunity to investigate the proposed approach and use what they learn to inform the next step.
